Everton were good value for their 2-0 win as Roberto Mancini tasted defeat for the first time as Manchester City manager. City were comprehensively outplayed by an outstanding Everton at Goodison Park and the score could have been more emphatic had Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini not both hit the woodwork.
Steven Pienaar's free-kick gave Everton the lead after 36 minutes, and Louis Saha added the second in first-half injury from the penalty spot after Micah Richards was punished for pulling the striker's shirt.
City for the most part were clueless with Robinho suffering the humiliation of being substituted in the second half after replacing Roque Santa Cruz in the 9th minute.
