'Disappointing' end to season says in-trouble Southampton manager Puel

Claude Puel has expressed his disappointment at the home defeat against Stoke City in the final day of the Premier League season.

Southampton enjoyed another top half finish this season but their campaign ended on a sour note with a 1-0 defeat against Stoke City at the St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday.

Manager Claude Puel could not hide his disappointment following the defeat to Stoke but insisted that he is proud of his players' efforts throughout the course of the current season.

Puel told Southampton's official website: "We have played every three days to finish. I think it's a disappointment because we wanted to finish with a win at home for our fans, but I am proud of my players.

"It has been a difficult season with lots of games and competitions, but they have played strong and well in all training sessions and game, without maybe a good reward."

Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger revealed publicly last week that Puel will be under review at the end of the season.
