Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Simunic says he is unlikely to end his playing career in the A-League.
The 33-year old Australian-born Croatia international is coming to the end of his playing days in Europe but says he is more likely to retire than continue in the Australian national league.
"I've been overseas for such a long time, I want to start living.""My eventual plan was to play these one and a half years and see how the body feels but to tell you the truth, I'd most probably call it a day," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
But even though he has all but ruled out a stint in the A-League, the former Melbourne Knights, Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim man believes the standard of the competition is ever-improving.
"Technically it's not bad at all. Obviously a lot of players who come out of Australia are physical, they can run a lot but tactically the league is getting a lot better.
"They've brought in some proven coaches. I don't know them personally but I can see how the teams play.
"After playing overseas for such a long time, you can see the coaches have stamped their style on the teams.""I've watched two or three games and to tell you the truth, I'm actually very impressed," he added. "It's getting closer and closer to that European level.
