Dinamo Zagreb defender Sime Vrsaljko on brink of Arsenal move

Dinamo Zagreb defender Sime Vrsaljko is on the brink of joining Arsenal.

The Daily Mail says Vrsaljko is set to join Arsenal before the transfer deadline falls in a £12.9m deal.

The agreement would see Vrsaljko loaned back to the Croatian champions for the remainder of the season before joining up with the first-team squad in the summer.

Vrsaljko only turned 19 this month and is the latest talent off a Dinamo production line that has produced stars such as Tottenham trio Luka Modric, Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka and former Gunners striker Eduardo.

The athletic defender, who can also play at left-back and centre-back, has impressed during a season and a half in the Dinamo first team and their vice-president Zdravko Mamic has reportedly persuaded Arsenal to up their initial offer of £8.6m.

Vrsaljko looks set to make his international debut next month after Slaven Bilic called him up to his squad for the first time this week ahead of Croatia's friendly with the Czech Republic on February 9.
