Dimitar Berbatov admits he held talks with Sunderland boss David Moyes about a Premier League return this season.
The former Manchester United and Tottenham striker has been without a club since he left Greek side PAOK in 2016.
Berbatov, 36, told Sky Sports: “I want to play. I had a conversation with a couple of managers, even the Sunderland one.
"But in the end nothing happened." Berbatov insists he would jump at the chance to play in England again.
He added: “When you play football for so long, and I'm in good shape, football for me is my life. I'm still looking to play.
“Of course [I was responsive to Sunderland]. At this stage in my life it's only about football. Just to play a little bit more.
"The Premier League is the place every player wants to come and play. When you have been a part of it for so long, as I have been, and you score goals and win championships, it's a feeling you want to go back and do again."
