Diego Godin has penned a new deal with Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguay defender signed terms to 2019 yesterday.

Atletico announced in a statement:

“The captain of la selección charrúa – the Uruguayan national side – has become a pillar for Atlético de Madrid conquering numerous titles with the rojiblanca. Diego Roberto Godín will remain at Atlético de Madrid until 2019 after the Uruguayan captain sealed a deal this Thursday evening extending his contract for an extra season.

"The central defender has become a pillar of our team since his arrival in 2010 and his quality has brought the attention of a lot of clubs this season., but Godín has always wanted to continue here at Atlético de Madrid, where he is a leader, an idol for the fans and a key figure of the success the club has had."
