Udinese striker Antonio di Natale is keen to break Oliver Bierhoff's record for most goals scored in a season.

The 32-year-old Italy international leads the scoring charts in Serie A with 25 goals in 32 appearances this season.

Bierhoff became Capocannoniere in his third and final season with Udinese when he scored 27 goals in 1998.

Di Natale said: “To tell the truth I have never thought about becoming Capocannoniere.

“I am already proud to be up for it with a great player like Diego Milito. But I would be proud to break the Udinese record held by Bierhoff.”

The former Empoli star was also coy about his chances of beating Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney to the European Golden Boot.

“It's almost unbelievable to see my name close to those of such champions. I am among the best strikers in the world.

“For me, it's already an honour just to be there. Now I want to go to the World Cup in this sort of form.”
