Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo pulled off a psychological masterstroke before victory in the Champions League final. The interim boss showed his squad a video of goodwill messages from their families edited with old video footage of them growing up and the early stages of their careers.
"The messages were a surprise," Ryan Bertrand told the Daily Mail. "We were called into a meeting and there they were, every single player.
"First, it was my mum and brother saying: 'Well done' and 'Good luck to the whole team'. Then it went to the rabble, the whole family, which was a little bit embarrassing.
"There could have been some tears but there was a bit of laughter and banter and that really spurred us on. It was a brilliant touch."
