Di Matteo looks back at FA Cup win over Birmingham as Chelsea turning point

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo admits that winning his first game in charge of the club helped him greatly.

The Italian oversaw the Blues' FA Cup fifth round replay against Birmingham City on March 6, which they won 2-0 at St Andrew's, and he feels that life could have been a lot different if they had lost that match.

"That was a crucial game for us," said Di Matteo after his side clinched the FA Cup trophy on Saturday.

"It was my first game but if we hadn't won it could have gone completely the other way.

"It was important to get that first win to instil a little bit of belief and confidence. That was a very important game.

"Every victory has just cemented their (the player's) confidence.

"We have rolled on from one win to the next and our belief and confidence increased with each one."
