Roberto Di Matteo was thrilled with his Chelsea sides performance as they beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 at the DW Stadium today to kick off the new season.
The Blues skipped away to a two-goal lead by the seventh minute thanks to a fine Branislav Ivanovic finish and a Frank Lampard penalty - both supplied by new boy Eden Hazard - and the overall result was perfect for Di Matteo who also praised the Belgian winger for his contribution.
"I think so. First game of the season, away from home," he told Sky Sports when asked if it was a good start.
"We had a very bright start and sometimes you don't score the goals so early on but it was perfect today that we managed to score the two goals early on. I think that that settled a lot of nerves.
"We prepared for the game and the team and we were looking for a good start. It doesn't always happen but I think today they responded very well."
Regarding Hazard he added: "He was outstanding. He produced a lot of quality within this game and was always a threat. Difficult to mark, got away from his man. It was very pleasant to watch him today."
