Mimmo di Carlo is delighted to have been handed the Sampdoria job.

After leaving Chievo Verona, Di Carlo was named new Sampdoria coach on Wednesday.

"I felt incredible joy last night when I was given the OK to complete the move," said Di Carlo.

"It's an honour to be here and the Champions League will be a fantastic stage to play on. We'll always give our best."

Di Carlo not only inherits a side that has just finished fourth in Serie A, but also a gifted genius in the form of Antonio Cassano.

"He is an important player and I want our relationship to be clear from day one," continued the Italian.

"Our bond will grow and I'm sure he'll have a great season as he will want to break into the Italy side for the European Championship."
