Sunderland boss Paolo di Canio's transfer work will continue over the weekend.

The Sun says Le Havre full-back Benjamin Mendy and midfield team-mate El-Hadji Ba are understood to be close to formalising their moves to Wearside.

And the club are also edging closer to deals for Velez Sarsfield defender Gino Peruzzi and Panathinaikos midfielder Charalampos Mavrias.

Sunderland are also hot on the heels of AZ Alkmaar striker Jozy Altidore, but their first bid for the 23-year-old United States international was rejected.
