Desailly: Rooney used Chelsea to earn new Man Utd deal

Former Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly believes Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was never interested in a move to Stamford Bridge.

Desailly says Rooney's proposed move to Chelsea was aimed at landing the England star a new deal at Manchester United.

He told the Daily Star: "I wasn't really sure he wanted to make a move to Chelsea.

"I think it is more business, than a desire to move from the club.

"Three years ago he was very clever telling the club that he wants to move to Manchester City. The club have allowed him to get the biggest salary and sign a new contract.

"This time I think they have tried again - it is business, they play the game and try to earn more.

"He doesn't really want to move. Nobody really showed, apart from Chelsea, that they want Rooney completely, truly."
