France World Cup winner Marcel Desailly hopes Marseille fullback Patrice Evra's career isn't over.
The former Manchester United captain has been suspended by OM after attacking a fan before their Europa League tie with Vitoria.
Desailly said: "From the moment you're in a football stadium, you have to watch out for fans who sometimes do crazy things.
"Football players must be exemplary. But everyone thinks what he wants. UEFA and the French Federation will decide what to do after this incident. Marseille has already laid him off.
"Everyone knows that you have to keep calm on the ground. I'm sad, he had a huge career, I would not like to see him finish on that. He has his reasons. I hope he will apologize and he can move on to something else."
