Derbyshire emerges as Olympiakos Cup hero

Matt Derbyshire is the hero of Olympiakos after scoring twice to help his club win the Greek Cup against AEK yesterday.

Olympiakos eventually won the final after a penalty shootout and Derbyshire, on-loan from Blackburn Rovers, said: "This is the first time I've heard the fans sing my name here at Olympiacos and it sounded great, it felt really special.

"It was an amazing game, easily one of the best I've ever played in and to score a goal in stoppage time with only a few seconds left was just unbelievable.

"Overall it's s been a fantastic move for me. I've got to thank my agent for arranging this move and Blackburn for letting me come out here."

Derbyshire was forced off during the second half of extra time complaining of soreness in his groin and admitted he would be returning to England to examine the problem.

"I had a double hernia operation in the summer and I was feeling a bit of pain," he said. "I don't know if it is weak or something but I have to go to England and get it looked it and then come back."
