Matt Derbyshire knows he is not guaranteed a place in Alex McLeish's attack after joining Birmingham City on a season-long loan. After 18 months in Athens with Olympiacos, the former England under-21 international has returned to England, joining the Blues on an initial loan deal that could become permanent at the end of the season.
And the 24-year-old former Blackburn man is excited at the prospect of returning to England's top division.
He told Sky Sports News: "I'm looking forward to the opportunity - it's a new start back in England.
"I'm delighted to be here, there's a great set of guys here and a great manager."
Of his time in Greece, Derbyshire added: "It's been a great experience, if I had the opportunity (to play abroad) again I probably would but I'm looking forward to the challenge at Birmingham - they're a great club."
Derbyshire's first game in front of the St Andrews faithful could be an ironic one, with former club Blackburn journeying to the Midlands on Saturday.
But the former Great Harwood Town youngster is confident of forcing his way into McLeish's plans.
"There is (competition for places) but that's a good thing," said Derbyshire, who confirmed he hopes to make his move to Birmingham permanent.
"We've got to give the manager a headache now and keep working hard on the training ground and hopefully everything will be fine.
"It would be very nice (to make my debut against Blackburn) but it's more important to help the team win games."
