Derby County defender Bob Malcolm has apologised to fans after his arrest last week.
On-loan at QPR, Malcolm was a surprise starter, after his arrest 48 hours earlier.
Cops are said to have found the Scot asleep in the front of his car on the M1 in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Malcolm said: "I want to apologise to all the supporters and, in particular, the young fans. I recognise footballers are role models and, as such, should set a positive example. On this occasion, I have failed to do that.
"But I must say I was very upset and frustrated with the poor performance of the referee in our match at Plymouth the evening before.
"I would also like to stress that, at the time of the incident, I was not driving my car. I had pulled over to the side of the road and was sleeping.
"Once again, I apologise for what has been a major error of judgment."
The Rams have suspended Malcolm, though QPR boss Luigi De Canio had no qualms about playing him.
The Italian said: "We asked Bob for an explanation of the incident and were satisfied with his response. We will not condemn him."
