Derby's Barnes warned to reign in ego

Derby County boss Billy Davies has hinted Giles Barnes' overblown ego could stop him from fulfilling his potential.

Ahead of today's clash at Aston Villa, boss Davies said: "Giles is still immature in a lot of aspects.

"He needs to be humble at times and sit back and respect his team-mates, show respect to the senior players and understand it's not all about himself.

"We tend to build him up too much sometimes and look at him as a Messiah. He's not.

"He's a young player with a lot of genuine potential to do very well at the top level.

"But he's not the finished article by a long way, and still has a lot to work on.

"There are still many flaws in his game and he has got to realise and recognise hard work and graft are what are required in the Premier League where you are playing against top players in top condition.

"He also needs to understand it's not all about Giles Barnes. It's a team sport and it's about 16 players who are all shoulder-to-shoulder helping each other out."
