Derby won't follow Sheffield Wednesday track - Jewell

Derby County boss Paul Jewell is confident they won't 'do a Sheffield Wednesday'.

The former Owls manager explained: "Sheffield Wednesday had been doing well but had fallen from grace. They had gone from being in the Premiership and in cup finals to slipping down the League.

"They expected to bounce straight back but there was an apathy about the place and on the training ground - the club was in turmoil.

"It is a different kettle of fish at Derby. There is no apathy here."

He added: "If you don't learn from adversity then you shouldn't be a manager. Some of the best lessons I learned as a manager came when I was at Sheffield Wednesday.

"I was there seven months or so and it was tough. I learned that when things are not going your way, when things are not going well, you have to try to look beyond the next hurdle and maybe I got bogged down.

"At Sheffield Wednesday, the most important thing became the next Saturday. I always felt I had to get a result in the next match to possibly keep my job. The next result is important, of course, but sometimes the future is more important and you have to take steps back to make progress.

"Sheffield Wednesday was only my second job in management and maybe people weren't convinced I could do the job. I like to think I have now proved I can. I am certainly more confident."
