Burnley missed out on a deal for Derby County skipper Richard Keogh last night.
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph says there was confidence in the Clarets camp that they might be able to secure a deal for Derby County defender Keogh - just over two years after they signed Pride Park skipper Jason Shackell.
Keogh was brought in to replace Shackell following the centre half's £1.1million move to Turf Moor.
It was thought the 28-year-old might tread the same transfer path ahead of last night's 11pm deadline, despite Derby last week rejecting a £1.5million bid from Burnley.
Reports of an improved £2.5m bid yesterday could not be verified. But Derby had stressed they had no intention to sell any of their players, and Keogh now seems set to sign the improved contract the Rams offered him once he returns from international duty with Ireland.
