Derby County have offered £6 million for Portsmouth striker David Nugent.
The Guardian says it is understood there have been talks between the two clubs, with a Portsmouth source indicating Derby have been "very active" in their attempts to sign Nugent.
However, the biggest task for Derby's manager, Billy Davies, remains convincing the forward that Pride Park is a good move for his career. Equally, Portsmouth would be reluctant to sell the 22-year-old unless a replacement can be found.
