Derby keeper Mitchell: We aspire to be like Liverpool

Derby County are desperate to match it with the best sides in England, says goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell.

The Rams were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night and even though it was a disappointing result for the Championship outfit, it certainly was a positive learning experience according to Mitchell who deputised for Scott Carson.

"That's what we have got to aspire to as players," the 21-year-old, who played just his second match for Derby, told Rams Player HD.

"That's where we want to go and that's where we want to be. We want to play against the best.

"Personally, I really enjoyed it. It was a great occasion and we played against a top side.

"I just wanted to come in and help the team, but the 3-0 defeat was not what we wanted at all. We played against a top team tonight.

"They were very sharp and had great movement across the park. Modern day football at the top is very different now and the players are just absolute athletes.

"That really is something that we have to aspire to."
