Derby captain Oakley: Davies should have stayed

Derby County captain Matt Oakley is upset over the departure of manager Billy Davies.

Oakley said: "You get a lot of opinions in football. Some said he should go and some said he should stay. I'm a big Billy Davies fan and I think he should have stayed.

"Unfortunately, I don't make those choices and now the board have a big decision to make. Hopefully, it's one that keeps Derby in the Premier League.

"Billy knows the results aren't good enough. I know they're not good enough but sometimes you need to give people time."

Oakley and defender Darren Moore will help academy boss manager Kevin Thelwell, who is in charge for the game at Sunderland on Saturday.
