Derby brace for new West Ham bid for Barnes

Derby County are bracing themselves for a new bid from West Ham for midfielder Giles Barnes.

The Hammers made a move for the Barking-born whizkid earlier this month - but were told he was not for sale.

Rams boss Billy Davies values Barnes, 19, at £5million-plus and is desperate to keep the youngster at Pride Park to boost his club's chances of staying in the Premier League.

But Alan Curbishley needs to sign a replacement for Dyer, who broke a leg at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

And the West Ham chief could weigh in with another cheeky bid for Barnes before the transfer window shuts at midnight tomorrow.
