Derby County boss Steve McClaren is yet to receive an approach from Newcastle United.
The Evening Chronicle says McClaren could leave his head coach role with the Rams and was contacted in the aftermath of the 3-0 loss to Leicester City - only for a move not to materialise.
McClaren is likely to be discussed by Newcastle chiefs if he is shown the door by Derby but no moves will be made until United's clash with West Ham is all over.
Were Derby to sack McClaren they would have to pay him a hefty compensation fee and the £2million price it would have cost Newcastle had he been under contract would no longer apply.
