Derby boss McClaren: Hodgson right man for England

Derby County boss Steve McClaren feels Roy Hodgson should continue as England coach.

Hodgson has an unlikely ally in McClaren, who was dubbed "the wally with the brolly" after England failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

McClaren, who coached highly-rated Andre Wisdom, Patrick Bamford and Will Hughes last season, said: "The main thing England did wrong was lose.

"They didn't defend well, didn't concentrate. It was all about game management.

"But I think the future is quite bright for England. I'm glad Roy's stayed on, they have some good young players.

"They need experience to learn from the mistakes. We have good young quality players in England and Roy knows what he is doing.

"I've watched a hell of a lot of the World Cup, you can't help it.

"I've watched it with interest - without looking at players, just the football in general."
