Derby boss Lampard: Loftus-Cheek needs to stick up for himself at Chelsea

Derby County boss Frank Lampard has offered fresh advice to former Chelsea teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard, who scored 211 goals in 648 appearances in 13 seasons at the club, believes he knows what Loftus-Cheek must do to secure a regular role.

Lampard - now manager of Derby County - told BBC Sport as a pundit on their World Cup coverage: "It's a two-way thing. I think Chelsea have potentially blocked his route by signing players in his position.

"Then on the flip side, Ruben, when he gets his chance has to be a bit more ruthless.

"When he goes back for pre-season after this World Cup he needs to say to Chelsea, 'I'm an England player, I deserve to be here and I can be a quality player for Chelsea'."
