Derby boss Jewell reveals Fergie class

Derby County boss Paul Jewell has revealed how Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson sent him a best wishes message after he left Wigan Athletic at the end of last season.

Ferguson, 65, sent a bottle of wine to Jewell when he quit as Wigan chief at the end of last season. And Fergie attached a note which read: "Have a nice break - but don't stay out too long."

Jewell, 43, returned last week with Derby. He revealed: "Sir Alex called me the day after I left Wigan and said 'You've made the right decision.' He sent me a nice case of wine.

"He wasn't the only one to be in touch but I really appreciated it.

"You have to admire Sir Alex, the length of time he's been in the game. I don't know if I'll be doing it at, what is he, 82?"
