Derby County boss Paul Jewell insists he won't waste any transfer funds he gets his hands on next month.
"If we're adrift, then no Premier League player is going to come, so it's a bit of a difficult one. But I can guarantee the people of Derby that if there is money to spend and I can spend it wisely, I will do it.
"I know the fans would rather see a long, bright future than accept a short-term view, which can work, but it's a big gamble because once the money is gone, it's gone.
"So I won't be so crass as to offer the fans false pretences.
"I'll give them guarantees and say I'll do my very best to make sure the club stays in the division. If it doesn't, then I'll give my very best to make sure it comes back, and when it does, it is stronger than it is now."
