Derby County boss Paul Jewell is excited by what he is seeing from new signing Emanuel Villa.

After the Argentine's goal in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham City, Jewell told BBC Radio Derby: "When I signed him I did say it was a bit of a gamble. But if we get the ball in the box with quality this kid will score.

"It was a terrific header. He's a really good kid and it's always nice to get off the mark when you are a striker - it's a major lift off his shoulders."

Jewell believes Villa, who signed for £2million at the start of January, is settling in as well as can be expected.

"It's difficult to come into a team when it's are struggling and when you can't speak the language," he said. "And when it's a different culture it's twice as difficult."
