Derby boss Jewell denies Beckford interest

Derby County boss Paul Jewell insists he has no interest in signing Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford.

The Premier League strugglers have been linked with a £3million swoop for the 16-goal marksman this month and Jewell watched the striker in action in Monday's 1-0 win at Crewe.

However, following Dennis Wise's blast that Leeds are a bigger club than Derby, Jewell has now distanced himself from a bid, stating the striker is not of the quality he is looking for.

"I heard Dennis' comment and he is trying to be big and score with the Leeds fans," Jewell told the Yorkshire Post.

"I would not make any comment about that because I think it is disrespectful for a manager to talk about other teams unless they are saying nice things.

"I wouldn't say anything about Leeds United other than to say I have got no interest in Jermaine Beckford. He had a good spell at Scunthorpe last year.

"He is having a decent season so far but, with all respect to Jermaine Beckford, I am looking for better players than that."
