Derby manager Paul Jewell has described the ongoing transfer saga of Rangers goalkeeper Roy Carroll as 'embarrassing'.

Rangers were understood to have released Carroll - who has also had spells at Wigan, Manchester United and West Ham - from his contract.

Jewell, though, now says that the move has yet to be completed, but the Pride Park boss is confident the deal will soon be concluded.

"I thought it was done this morning," Jewell told Sky Sports News on Thursday.

"But apparently the red tape and the administration work still needs to be done. We hope by the end of play today it is done.

"I don't know what has happened at the minute. I came off the training ground and thought it was done, but now I am being told it is not quite.

"It is dragging on a bit which is annoying for me and more so for Roy. It is a little bit embarrassing for both clubs."
