Derby County boss Billy Davies won't consider paying over the odds for new signings.
Davies said: "It would be nice to have everything sorted for our opener with Portsmouth on August 11.
"The market has gone crazy this summer but that's modern football.
"It's very easy right now to sign players if you are prepared to pay over top dollar on fees and wages.
"But if you want value for money you must wait until the sensible negotiations start in the last week of the transfer window.
"That's when the best deals are done."
