Derby boss Davies shrugs off fresh job doubts

Derby County boss Billy Davies has dismissed fresh doubts over his future ahead of tomorrow's match against Bolton Wanderers.

The Scot insists his belief in his ability to claw County out of trouble has not been shaken.

Davies, who refused to be drawn on whether he had consulted the League Managers' Association over his alleged treatment, said: "My only focus is on preparing the players for matches and the matches coming up.

"I do that with the best intentions and as professionally as I can.

"Nothing else matters, I'm very comfortable with the way that I work and the direction we're going.

"I'm very confident in my own ability and the way we prepare teams and my record speaks for itself over that."

On the possibility of an unfavourable result this weekend costing him his job, Davies simply added: "I don't ever think about that."

Derby's last outing saw them trounced 5-0 at leaders Arsenal, but the former Preston boss does not believe that footballing lesson at the Emirates will have any bearing on the rest of the season.

"We are realistic here," Davies admitted.

"Sometimes other teams have better quality than you've got at this moment in time and have spent a great deal more money.

"Sometimes you have to sit back and admire the development of other clubs in comparison to your own.

"We certainly don't get down about it and remain upbeat.

"We know in this long marathon, come the end of the season, we know exactly what it will take to keep ourselves as a Premier League team."
