Derby and Barnsley share the spoils

Derby drew 1-1 with Championship draw specialists Barnsley and Rams boss Nigel Clough was pleased with the second half performance. "The effort that went in in the second half was absolutely incredible," Clough said. "But it was not just the effort, there was quality to go with it.

"In the first eight games we have had plenty of effort, spirit and energy but I thought tonight it all came together with some brilliant football at times as well.

"I think to create as many chances and peg a team back as comfortable as Barnsley are, especially away from home, was exceptionally good. To sit here with only one point the lads are a little bit down but in the next few days they will take an awful lot of pride from the performance.

"I think we were camped not just in their half but in their penalty area for long spells and if something had dropped we might have got the winner, but hopefully we might get something on Saturday when we might not deserve it as much as tonight."

Barnsley have now drawn six of their nine Championship matches and boss Keith Hill conceded his team rode their luck in the second half.

"The first half we did very well and showed some great energy and created opportunities, but in the second we were very fortunate to escape with a point.

"That was because of the way they played, they are an excellent side and with the injuries we have, we are very pleased to come here and get a salvage job."
