Departing Millwall defender Lowry eyes Championship stay

Shane Lowry is attracting interest from some clubs in the English Championship according to his agent.

The 24-year old Australian defender is out of contract after being released by Millwall following the completion of the 2013/14 season which saw him make 22 appearances in the league.

Some reports have suggested that former Aston Villa youngster Lowry could be pondering a move to the A-League but his representative, Gary Williams, told SBS that there are some clubs in England's second tier who are keen.

"There is interest from several other Championship clubs and that's Shane focus right now," said Williams.

"He could see the way things were heading a little bit towards the end of his contract with Millwall but he is now looking forward to another chapter in his career.

"The A-League isn't on his radar at the moment, though of course he keeps an eye on the competition and knows it's growing fast.

"But he's done well in England and that's where he sees his immediate future. It's a bit early in his career to be going back to Australia right now."

Lowry joined Millwall permanently from Villa in 2012 following an initial loan spell with the Lions and went on to make 91 appearances in all competitions.
