Demetrio Albertini running for FIGC presidency

Former AC Milan and Italy midfielder Demetrio Albertini says he will run for the FIGC presidency.

Carlo Tavecchio is thought to be the favourite for the job, which was vacated by Giancarlo Abete after the World Cup.

"I have made a decision to apply for the position because I believe there is a possibility I can be useful for the Federation," Albertini told a Press conference.

"Recently there has been a huge change in the landscape of Italian football. I did not expect the resignations of Prandelli and Abete.

"But I have received many calls from people who have asked me to make myself available.

"To be President is going to require a gear change from myself, but I believe I can do it.

"We need to change things. We need to focus on improving youth players.

"We don't need to copy the German model, but we can learn from their example."
