Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld says Dele Alli apologised to teammates after being sent off against AA Gent.

Alli, 20, was sent off for a gruesome challenge on Gent's Brecht Dejaegere in the 2-2 draw at Wembley which resulted in Spurs going out of the Europa League.

Alderweireld said: “Of course he said sorry. He didn't mean to get sent off.

“Two seconds before someone made a foul on him and he reacted on that but not to get a red card.

"He is young and I know for 100% he didn't mean (to do it)."
