Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was proud of the way his players didn't retaliate against their Dutch opponents during last night's World Cup triumph.
Spain's players kept their cool and were rewarded with Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta's extra time winner.
Del Bosque said: "Holland played a good game. It was very intense, balanced and even. It was also rough at times but that's part of football.
"But I'm here to speak about the beautiful things in football.
"After the defeat by Switzerland I reminded my players what had brought us here to South Africa.
"We qualified impeccably and I didn't want anything to change. That's what I got my players to commit to again - and they did that. This final had quality football, offensive football.
"Football is moving forward and in this World Cup in South Africa the reward today was for beautiful football."
As well as being a victory for football, Spain's win was just reward for Del Bosque's brave selection decisions.
The coach again started without Fernando Torres and then, with penalties fast approaching, he took off his main spot-kick takers David Villa and Xabi Alonso.
He admitted: "I did think about that. But I also realised we needed to make changes and I didn't want to lose 'tall' players.
"Holland were dropping deeper and deeper, so I decided to make these substitutions."
