Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has explained benching Chelsea striker Fernando Torres for the win over Scotland.
Del Bosque went with Barcelona ace David Villa and was rewarded with a two-goal performance.
On Torres, Del Bosque explained: "It is very easy to understand: it is difficult to put them all in. Only eleven can play and I can only make three substitutions.
"Torres played the other day, and today we have opted for a forward whose a lot shorter, like Villa, with two very tall midfielders. It has worked well."
