Defour may've talked his way out of Man Utd move

Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour may miss out on his move to Manchester United after revealing Sir Alex Ferguson has written to him this week. The Daily Mail says Defour should have heeded the lesson learned from Julien Escude when Ferguson was courting him.

Escude was another lift the lid on approaches in August 2002.

A spokesman for his club Rennes said they had received no offers for their Under 21 international, but Escude blabbed: "Manchester United are interested.

"I am not insensitive to their solicitations. I have had contacts with Alex Ferguson. I wanted to know what he expected from me and what he was intending.

"I have spoken about my possible departure with the Rennes managers. They know what I think. I am ambitious and I want to keep progressing."

The loose tongue saw him miss out on Old Trafford and he is now a 30-year-old who never quite hit the heights that had been promised.

Will Defour suffer the same fate?
