Defoe, who struck a brace in the UEFA Cup during the week, said: "There has been a lot of things said during the summer over whether I am going to go.
"When the fans are like that with me I do not want to go anywhere."
Defoe was not even on the bench against Arsenal last Saturday and boss Martin Jol could not guarantee him a place in the starting XI against Bolton on Sunday.
"I said to myself I have got nothing to prove, but it has been difficult and I have just kept my head up and worked hard in training," said Defoe.
"In a way I think I am stronger now and I always said if I am given a chance I will try my best."
