Jermain Defoe is being made available by Tottenham this summer.

The Mirror says Spurs have offered Defoe to Aston Villa in a cash-plus-player exchange for Christian Benteke.

Villa have so far rejected the chance to sign 30-year-old Defoe and remain intent on persuading Benteke to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

Tottenham's decision to listen to offers for Defoe is likely to leave him stunned.

He only signed a new three-year deal last summer, and believed it would end uncertainty over his future.
