Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has labelled Teemu Tainio as an 'unbelievable character' as Spurs get set for their upcoming clash with New York Red Bull.
The North London club take on the MLS giants in a friendly at the Red Bull Arena on July 31 and Defoe spoke highly of the former Tottenham man who has become a key player for the Red Bulls since joining in 2011.
"I'm still in touch with him, we've messaged each other, I think (LA Galaxy's) Robbie Keane gave him my number.
"He did well for us. He's a good player, strong, always put his foot in and a good passer of the ball.
"He will want to prove a point as well, you know what he's like with his banter. It will be interesting to see him and play against him.""He was an unbelievable character, no doubt still is," Defoe told the club's official website.
Spurs meet New York in Harrison, New Jersey on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:00pm local time and the Premier League club has also confirmed an Open Training Session at Red Bull Arena on the morning of Monday, July 30 followed by a Supporters Club Event (hosted by NY Spurs) that evening in Manhattan.
