Defoe proud seeing so many Spurs players in England squad

Jermain Defoe says the number of players from Tottenham called up for the England squad is a sign of how far they've come.

Defoe, Kyle Walker, Scott Parker and Steven Caulker are among Roy Hodgson's selections for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro, while Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon were named in the original party but had to withdraw because of injury.

Despite a recent wobble, Spurs remain fourth in the Premier League and on course to qualify for next season's Champions League.

"We've done well as a club this season and, as individuals, we've set a standard," said Defoe. "It's fantastic that so many of us were picked for the original squad.

"I missed the friendly against Brazil because of my ankle injury but we want our good form to continue. At this stage of the season, people get tired but it's important to keep concentrating and to make sure you prepare well for every game."
