Jermain Defoe scored the only goal of the game as Tottenham beat Watford in Lloyd Doyley's testimonial at Vicarage Road.
William Gallas' header, that flew over Manuel Almunia's bar, and a Joe Garner effort that was blocked in the box were the only chances of note in a poor first half.
Spurs made four changes at the break and it paid off as Andre Villas-Boas' men took the lead 10 minutes after the restart when Kyle Walker's cross was headed past Almunia by Defoe.
Former Spurs man Mark Yeates went close twice for the home side but a host of changes from Hornets' boss Gianfranco Zola and Villas-Boas disrupted the flow and neither side was able to add to Defoe's strike.
