Defoe fed-up with Bournemouth supersub role

Jermain Defoe has told Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe he's more than just a supersub.

Defoe is gutted at being left on the bench for both of the Cherries' opening league games following his £130,000-a-week move from Sunderland.

His frustrations boiled over as he sent a blunt message to Howe, saying: “Itching to start? Yes, of course I am – everybody wants to play and I think the manager knows I'm ready now.

“I remember I missed a couple of preseason games with Sunderland but I played the first game of the season and I felt sharp, so it doesn't take me long to get my fitness. Like I said, everyone wants to play, not just me."
