Defiant Pochettino not following Cortese out Southampton exit door

Mauricio Pochettino has made it vehemently clear that he has no intentions of leaving his post as Southampton manager.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with a St Mary's departure following the resignation of chairman Nicola Cortese yesterday.

Pochettino had said last year that it would be unlikely he would remain as Saints boss if Cortese was ever to depart but he appears as though he has had second thoughts on that statement.

"I am staying as manager. I have a professional responsibility to everyone at the club and the fans," Pochettino told Saints Player.

"They are completely different situations (now to when I made those comments). Eight months ago I was finishing my first season, and I did say it would make no sense for me to be here without Nicola.

"Now we're in the middle of our project and it's a completely different situation. I'm completely committed."
