Defender Page enjoys scoring brace for Motherwell

Motherwell defender Jonathan Page scored twice against Brechin City and declared this his career highlight to date. Page scored both Motherwell goals in the Co-operative Insurance Cup third-round win at Glebe Park.

"I enjoyed a loan spell with Stirling Albion last season but my main aim was to build on that and try and get in the Motherwell team," Page said.

"So tonight's really, really pleasing for me. It's great to score the goals."

Page scored both goals with his head but also took a few knocks in some aerial battles against the Second Division side.

"I think I got a few stitches from trying to defend one of their corners but that's what you expect as a defender I guess," he added.

"The most important thing is to win the game and get through to the next round. Maybe the game didn't go quite as well as we were hoping for but the important thing is that we're through.

"Motherwell's a good team for young players because over the years they've given lots of chances to young players. The players that are playing are excellent players; Stephen Craigan, Steven Hammell.

"The defence has got masses and masses of experience so it's just something you've got to try and learn from, watching them play and hope that one day you might get your chance through injury or suspension.

"I know the boys are really disappointed not to have got through to the next round in Europe so certainly they'll be concentrating on the next cup that comes forward and there's no reason why we can't do well."
