Decisions need to be made – NYRB’s Beiersdorfer

New York Red Bulls new sporting director, Dietmar Beiersdorfer, is well aware that decisions need to be made.

The MLS outfit finished with the worst record in the league and the former Hamburg director knows he has to change things up.

I know that decisions are waiting,” Beiersdorfer said.

“I know decisions are waiting, for sure. The season was not good. As a soccer man I know that sometimes things don’t come together.

“It is my conviction that the club, Red Bull New York, must have total authority about everything. As the sporting director in Hamburg, I tried to give the club a frame, something to present the identity of the club. We need an identity.

“And that must be done from the top down. There is no point to set up the best coach in the world when the club may not be ready for the best coach. We need a good coach, not a big coach. We have to see. It is not only about names. The organization wants to make itself independent of one person.”
